Students and teachers at Beaconsfield Junior High School on Waterford Bridge Road joined forces on Thursday to participate in national Purple Day, an event planned by the Beaconsfield Gay Straight Alliance (GSA). The purpose of Purple Day, which is recognized nationally, is to support LGBTQ youth and send the message that bullying will not be tolerated. Teacher sponsor Catherine Lee-Ivany said, “We had a very successful day and the GSA raised money with a purple bake sale and ticket sales on a purple goodie basket. At Beaconsfield we strive to create an environment not just of safety for all, but of acceptance and celebration of all. The GSA is a big part of that.” Above, faculty (from left) joining with the students were principal Peter McDonald, Lee-Ivany and assistant principal Alastair Gregory.
