On Monday and Tuesday, April 2 and 3, students from Beaconsfield Junior High participated in Peer Facilitator Training for the Red Cross Beyond the Hurt Program. Students were trained by RespectED trainer, David Dyer, Safe and Caring Schools Program Itinerant for ESDNL.
“Canadian Red Cross Respect Ed trains students to help make schools and communities safe and secure by combatting bullying and harassment. The youth delivery model has been proven successful in reaching their peers with this very important issue.”
The first day focused on gaining knowledge and understanding of the issues and dynamics of bullying and harassment. On the second day, the students created a presentation that they could deliver to their peers and younger students.
Newly trained Peer Facilitators include Mackenzie Woodfine, Ally Pye, Lauren Shallow, Miriam Simmons, Michael Scheeler-Breen, Kurtis Hickman and Claire Hickman. The teacher representative from the BJH SACS Committee was Cathy Lee-Ivany.
